Program Overview

The OAHMP provides low-cost, high-impact home modifications to help elderly Houstonians "age in place." By improving safety and accessibility, the program reduces fall risks and allows seniors to remain independent in their own homes rather than moving to assisted care facilities.

Services

The program focuses on immediate, functional improvements to the home:

  • Safety Installs: Grab bars, railings, and non-slip strips for stairs/showers.
  • Accessibility Upgrades: Lever-handle doorknobs, faucets, and temporary ramps.
  • Adaptive Equipment: Shower benches, handheld shower heads, raised toilet seats, and furniture risers.
  • Independence: Enhances the ability to perform daily activities safely and confidently.

Eligibility

To qualify for services, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be at least 62 years old.
  • Income: Must be classified as low-income.
  • Residency: Must be the homeowner of a privately owned primary residence within the service area.
