• You will have the opportunity to return: Residents who wish to return can come home to the new, modern Cuney Homes.

Introduction

The Houston Housing Authority is moving forward with the redevelopment of Cuney Homes as part of the Third Ward Choice Neighborhood Initiative. Guided by years of community input and the strategies outlined in the Transformation Plan submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, HHA and Brinshore Development are implementing a build-first, phased construction plan designed to modernize the community while prioritizing resident stability and minimizing disruption. This page provides a clear overview of the relocation and construction timelines — what will happen, when it will occur, and how HHA will support residents throughout each phase of the process.

Overall Redevelopment Timeline

The redevelopment requires the reconstruction of all buildings and underground infrastructure. To complete this safely and efficiently, construction will occur in three major phases. The phasing schedule is structured to:

• Reduce the number of moves
• Prioritize safety
• Support resident stability throughout redevelopment

How the Relocation Process Works

We Meet → You Choose → We Support → You Move → You Return Home

1. We meet with you to discuss your family’s needs, review temporary housing options and answer questions.
   2. You choose the temporary housing option best for your family – stay in Third Ward or move elsewhere. The options include:
   • Another HHA community
                  • A Project-Based Voucher community
                  • A private-market home with a Tenant Protection Voucher
                  • A market-rate unit with URA assistance
   3. We support your move with packing and moving assistance provided at no cost to you.
   4. Relocation occurs in three phases:
                  • Phase 1: Jan–May 2026
                  • Phase 2: Jan–May 2027
                  • Phase 3: Jan–May 2029
   5. You return home to the new, modern, energy-efficient Cuney Homes once construction for your phase is complete.
